I'm actually terrified of polystyrene.
I wanted to submit my phobia which is styrafoam cups. Just the idea of them makes me feel sick to my stomach and weak in the knees. The texture is discusting. The first time I realized it, was when I was about 20 years old and my boyfriend (husband now) handed me a cup of bought coffee and I screamed and threw it up in the air. Nobody was hurt but until this day (around 15 years later), I have managed not to touch them. If someone hands one to me, I have to tell them that I can't take it (which is embarrassing in many situations). I also have a problem with chalk but that is more managable.
my friend mary has a huge phobia of styrofoam, to where she has to ask for a different kind of left over box because she cant stand it (also she is afraid of popcorn cause the texture and sound are similiar to styrofoam). She also is afraid of chalks, possums, the state of Montana....
I'm also afraid of styrofoam textures but that has lessened over the years.
i'm 17 and i've always hated the feel, texture, and noise of styrofoam. when ever i hear the sound of it i get shivers and start to freak out. when i feel it i have to get ride of it pronto. when i'm some place and they give me something styrofoam i have to get away from it and get it out of sight.
Polystyrene, popcorn, meringue - all things which are "expanded" make my skin crawl. There are breakfast cereals called Puffa Wheat and Sugar Puffs - we have to have cereal that they keep at the end of the aisle in the supermarket so I don't have to walk past these two. But polystyrene is the WORST - you never know where it's going to crop up next. I can't believe there isn't a name for the phobia.
