Hi I have a very strange phobia I am absolutely petrified of pool lights. I.e - the lights that are attached to the interior wall of a pool which light up the water to give that pretty glow. I am NOT afraid of the electrical side of things - its the light itself. It is totally and completely horrifying - even when its switched off. I have had this ever since i can remember. My grandparents had a light in their pool disconnected when i was 3 because they saw how terrified i was. Phobias are very debilitating - luckily this one only keeps me away from certain pools, rather than keeping me isolated from a part of life which is mandatory for normal survival.
Hi, i would like to know if you can give me any more information about the submitter who is scared of pool lights. i have the same phobia and i would love to talk with him about it. thanx!
Hey I just stumbled across your website and I couldn'tbelieve what I saw! I thought I was like the only person in the world who was SCARED TO DEATH of pool lights!!!!! Im surprised there were other people who think they are as terrifying as I do (on and off). Its so bad for me I walk around the edge on in-ground pools looking for the lights just to make sure I dont stumble across them on accident. If I have to go in I'll stay as far from the end with the light as possible as long as its off but if there are more than one its usually too hard to stay away so I just keep outta the pool all together. I've been this way ever since I was little and I'd love to hear what other people with the fear have to say about it.
I am also afraid of the grates, the lights, and the things that the chlorine goes in in swimming pools. So is my brother.
I am 26 years old (male) and have been afraid of the pool light for as long as I can remember! I was so excited to find someone else who shares the same fear! Doen't matter if the pool light is on or off... I'm afraid of it (although it is a heck of a lot scarier when it is on). The worst is when I'm underwater and I can see the light from far away... looking at me... ewwwww.... I can't look at them, but I can be in the pool with them. When I swim by one, I go as fast as I can to get away from it... always with my eyes closed. A year ago I swam by an illuminated light with my eyes closed... and when I opened my eyes it was off! I was so scared, I jumped out of the pool and wouldn't go back in it! This phobia is rediculous! BTW, I am not afraid of being electrocuted. I don't know what I'm afraid of.
I'm also extremely terrified of swimming pool lights and drains and was so surprised and relieved to see that I'm not the only one!!
I’m 25 years old, and I too am TERRIFIED of pool lights! I always thought I would get over it as I got older… but so far that hasn’t happened. I remember one particularly horrifying incident… I was swimming with a friend in a very large country club pool (at night), when one of the lights somehow detached itself from the wall and burst to the surface RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! I have never been so scared in my life, and I think at the back of my mind, I’m always thinking that it’s going to happen again. I’m not scared of being electrocuted or anything, it’s just a totally crazy fear of the light itself… on or off, doesn’t matter. What makes this fear funny (and a little tragic) for me is that my all-time favorite fitness activity is swimming! I usually go to the local swim center pool…there’s a light lurking beneath every other lane line… meaning no matter what lane you’re in, you are always swimming toward (or worse, away from) a light regardless of the direction you’re going in…. ugh. For whatever reason, I’m fine if there are people in the lanes on either side of me… but if they leave, I have to move to be near someone else, or get out altogether. If I go to an unfamiliar pool, I have to walk all the way around it to scope out where the lights are, so I don’t happen across them by surprise. I feel so lame!
Hi, I am completely freaked out of pool lights!!! I won't get within about 3 feet of them. And thought of looking at them underwater freaks me out. My mom once offered me 50$ just to touch one. I also don't like deep pools and looking at them from underwater! I get really scared if I'm left alone around a giant pool also.
I am also terrified of pool lights even if they are off! It's not the only thing that freaks me out and the main thing is emergency lights, the ones that come on when the power goes off. Usually they are 2 lights which are the same kind of light as pool lights and they are attached to a box usually. I can't be alone with them when they are even off! Very hard to find a job where I don't have to work around them! I have never ever met anyone that is afraid of these darn things. Feel free to pass my email on to anyone who has this same phobia.
