My younger brother has a raging fear of ketchup...if there's squished tomatoes anywhere near him or his food he goes completely PSYCHO...I remember once my mom ordered from McDonald's and she hadn't special ordered as usual for him. "You can't just wipe it off!! It's still there!!!". So she had to revisit the restaurant and place his order. He'd go on mild hunger strikes occasionally to protest. And it's not tomatoes--just ketchup...he's fine and sane w/ any other sort of tomato product. I'm writing b/c I didn't think there was such a phobia. I mean, it's pretty outlandish. Then tonight I was having dinner w/ my family and a friend to a relative was their. She was dripped w/ ketchup--just a little bit--and she went psycho, just like my brother...so I figured "hey, it's not JUST him". And I want to know if there's a name for this PHOBIA. Thanks.
Glad to see there was actually another person with ketchup phobia. My father has an extreme ketchup phobia in addition to a number of other more recognizable phobias. He has a full blown anxiety attack when we use it and the house goes into Hazmat alert if it spills if it spills on the floor. Same goes for 1000 island dressing. His eyes get wide and real crazy looking and he backs away and tells everyone to freeze. My folks don't keep it in the house anymore because there were too many fights about him getting so agitated about the ketchup.
My friend also has a phobia of ketchup. It really like freaks her out!! The smell of ketchup really bothers her too! Just few minutes ago i tried to make her breath ketchup, like smell it, and she freaked out! I think it is so weird! I thought she was rhe only person with this phobia but i guess not!
i am 18 years old and i have developed in the last few years a fear of tomato ketchup. i become nautious and frustrated whenever someone around me eats tomato ketchup or talks about eating it. ketchup spills on tables terrify me, and tomato ketchup sandwiches, as eaten by some of my weirder friends occasionally make me sick with their presence. a few months ago a friend of mine threatened me with a ketchup bottle and said he was going to squirt it at me! i fell off me seat and went red in the face. most people i know have come to terms with my fear, but my sister still does not accept it, and often eats ketchup just to spite me! if i was to give a medical name to the fear of ketchup, i would call it "ketchup-mcphobia" after the ketchup muncher's mecca: mcdonalds!
Wow! I seriously can't believe that there are other people who have a fear of ketchup! I used to be so terrifyed of it. I never liked ketchup but when I was in 1st grade a girl that I hated would fill up one section of her lunch tray just with ketchup. Then she would make me watch her lick it all up with her fingers! Eww! I think that's when it started. Now I can't stand kethcup. My friends like to throw kethcup on me and they put it on my food. They seriously torture me with it! Once my friend put ketchup all over her hand and then smeared it in my face. I screamed and ran to the bathroom and scrubbed my face for like an hour. Then I sprayed perfume all over so I wouldn't smell it. If people put ketchup on my skin I scrub it until it gets red and hurts. I HATE KETCHUP!
My husband has a HATRED of ketchup. Likes all other tomato products, but not ketchup. The smell is the worst part; trash has to be emptied right away. Miss made burgers returned or thrown out. I guess I won’t make so much of it now that I know other people have same fear, as weird as that is,
i have always had a terrible fear of baked beans, i'm not sure if it's the sauce as i also fear spaghetti hoops and ketchup i cannot watch anyone eat them. The smell makes me phsically sick and i have had panic attacks when chased with one on a fork by a very unhelpful husband . whom i make cook them for himself and wash up after .had to refuse to work till my keyboard was cleaned as he put one bean on the enter key!
Wow!!! I just came back from a fast food restraurant and they put ketchup in my bag. I wanted to throw away everything in the bag and re-order but my fear of ketchup has been getting better. I am 20 years old and as long as I can remember I've always been scared of ketchup. If it even touched my skin, I would vomit endlessly. I can't believe there are that many people who fear ketchup!!! I'm not alone!
Hi. My entire life I have had a phobia of ketchup. Its not just a phobia, fear, or distaste. Its an extreme hatred. I can't stand it. I find it utterly disgusting. The taste, the smell, the look, the texture, even the squishy sound it makes when someone eats it. It makes me want to regurgitate. Whenever I touch it, I freak out, and have to wash my hands until any remaining residue is completely wiped from my memory. I think the reason for this is that my sister was like, the ketchup kid. She put it on everything. This ruined ketchup for forever. When I'm older, I am not going to introduce my kids to ketchup, and if they want it, my husband can wash the dishes!
hey ive got a phobia of ketchup 2!!! wow i fort i was da only 1 ma friendz alwayz make fun out of me; puttin bottles in ma handbag and ketchup on ma chair it all started wen i was bout 7 i got food poisoning from mcdonalds it was really bad ma dad took me 2 the hospital. i then puked up this disgusting ketchup thing and i had this horrible acid ketchup taste in ma mouth 4 sooo long it has made me hate it with a pasion i wnt even touch da bottle!!!!! it is da most disgusting thing eva created
I have this odd fear of ketchup, and I've had it since as long as I can remember....I always eat my burgurs plain, with only relish on it and no ketchup, and I feal sick whenever someone has anything with ketchup on or near it. And if I accually get ketchup -on- me...I start to totally freak out and grab a napkin or something and rub that area until it bleeds, just to make sure I have all the ketchup off.
i was astonished to find how many people are afraid of ketchup!!!! i hate ketchup!! i cant even wash up plates with this disgusting sauce on them, my friends always used to tease me and id scream and sometimes cry yak! i also have a fear of broken glass which breaks me into a sweat, its very scary
I created the word "saltomaphobia," the irrational fear of ketchup. Sal (like in salsa) means sauce. Toma (like in tomate and tomato) means tomato. It technically means the irrational fear of tomato sauce, but it is also used as the word for the irrational fear of ketchup that many people, including myself, have.
I was so excited to see that I am not the only one with a fear of ketchup. I can not remember when my phobia began, but my mom has told me stories of how when I was very young I would completely freak out and go pale if ketchup was any where near me. I hate the look and the smell of it. My friends have teased me about it as long as I can remember, flaunting ketchup in my face and sometimes even touching me with it. One time I was skiiing with a friend and she dripped ketchup on my arm. I lost it running outside rubbing my arm in the snow desperatly trying to get rid of the smell. When I babysit I wont allow the kids to have ketchup with dinner because I refuse to touch the bottle. Whenever ketchup is near me I have a hard time focusing on anything else, I am constantly afraid of it touching me. I know its irrational but i despise ketchup!!!
I'm so glad I decided to search the web about my weird phobia. I'm an ex military brat living in the UK. Ever since I can remember I have had this serious fear of the red goo. I was at uni in London at this party once and one of my friend told someone that I had this fear. Well they didn't believe it and got a squeezy bottle of ketchup and chased me to the point that I jumped out of the the second story house the party was in. I landed in loads of thorns. I thought I was weird. thank to all in my position. I'd like to call the fear Tomketcophobia...
have just emailed this site to all of my friends who make fun of me. Try working in a restaurant when you absolutely despise ketchup. It's hard! One of the sideworks at night is "marrying the condiments." Although I try to keep my phobia quiet (b/c I know what people like to do to you with ketchup when they learn about it), I told the restaurant that if they ever made me do that, I would quit. I worked there for 3 1/2 yr's and I never had to. Yuck! And then if you accidentally get some on you while you are bussing tables... It makes me wanna puke just thinking about it. I have met others who don't like the stuff, but never anyone with a fear, like me. And like the others, I like other tomato products (I adore spaghetti sauce), but as for ketchup.... it's hard for me to even write the word! I wouldn't even touch a bottle until I was 20 (I am 24). I know it's weird, but most phobias are. I am elated to know that I have others who sympathize with my plight!
I'm extremely, extremely afraid of ketchup. I've had past experiences when it gets to close, I begin puking. Its horrible, I hate it so much. The smell, which is the worst for me. Ahh, I hate it so much. I hate the look of it also. It reminds me of blood and its just so disgusting...BLUGH. All of my friends think I'm insane for hating it so much but they do not understand I can't even touch or look at it. When I do look at it, I become crazy. I started to cry or vomit or I have an anxiety attack. Seriously, its horrible. It's such a large hate passion, it makes me extremely sick. Ketchup is my worst fear and nightmare.
