one [my sister's] friends has this phobia of grasshoppers. it's really funny actually. we put a grasshopper on the her horses back while she was brushing it and she screamed bloody murder. then she started running away screaming and my sister shouted "it's hopping after you" and she locked herself in the car. it was hilarious! another time, my sister had a piece of grass in her hand and showed it to her pretending it was a grasshopper, and she like freaked and started cussing her out. just thought that was odd enough for you...
one of my unusual phobias is that of grasshoppers and locusts. living in a warm, dry climate, this makes the summer months unbearable. i will do anything to avoid them. if i look outside in my backyard through our glass doors, there mere sight of one is enough to send me into a nervous frenzy, even after i draw the curtains and head to my room on the other side of the house. if i am outside, and think i see one, i will immediately vacate the area and move inside. if there is one inside...consider me gone. it is severe enough to the point that i don't even like to hear people say the word or talk about anything related to them...just writing about this makes me feel very, very, nervous. i'm not sure when this phobia began - i never realized that i was even afflicted with this irrational fear until i moved here from the east coast. the only thing that i can recall that might have triggered this was an incident in which a bus driver had left the bus windows open over night, and EXTREMELY large grasshoppers had taken residence inside the bus, EVERYWHERE - in the seats, on the windows, on the ceiling, on the floor...the whole bus was a flurry of wings, and one ended up on top of my head, in my hair...and, yeah. it wasn't good. i actually feel like throwing up even thinking about it.
